Hunny had to be put down. It was the most heart wrenching decision I have ever had to make. I went to go feed her and check to see her progress and didn't see her. I called and heard her hit the side of the little barn. I knew without seeing that she was down. I struggled for an hour or more trying to get her situated to where I could call for help. I thought she was doing good at one point, even breathing better but it wasn't to be. She was so tired. When she started mooing, it just broke my heart. I wanted to believe she was asking for help, but I believe she was asking to be let go. She tried so hard but the parasite infection inside her body had taken it's toll. All the previous owner had to do was worm her. Even though she was a dairy cow, it just boggles the mind as to how someone could let her get to such a state of illness. Take her off the line, something, anything.
I'm glad I was able to get in touch with my niece because her husband who also is familiar with cattle came to help me get her out of the barn and try and sit her up. Poor thing was just too wore out. She never was able to keep herself sitting up and her breathing was very labored by now. I took my grand nephew to my house while they took care of her. I cried most of the next day and turned off all the phones. I'm better today, but I so wish she would have made it. She would have been an awesome cow to love and take care of. She was only about 2 years old.
